Planets in Astrology

If you want to know astrology, you need to know the planets.

That is the absolute base foundation.

To give you a better understanding of the 7 traditional (visible) planets, I’ll explain them as careers, or archetypes.

The Sun is the movie star.

The Sun is an influencer.

The Sun is meant to be seen.

The Sun is that friend who cannot stop talking about main character energy (even though that was a thing 3 summers ago).

Birthdays, the day we’re celebrated with attention, is the day our Sun returns to the place it was when we were born.

The Sun sheds light on whatever area of the chart it’s in.

The Moon is the stay-at-home mom.

A stay-at-home mom in the traditional sense.

The Moon is the mother.

The Moon is chocolate chip cookies; it’s the Mom friend who makes you soup when you’re sick.

The Moon is what makes you feel warm.

The Moon is a cuddled couch nap with your lover.

The Moon in an astrology chart will tell you the heart of the matter.

Mercury is the journalist.

Mercury is driving everywhere, collecting the information to create the story.

Mercury is the town crier, destined to get the news out to whoever will listen.

Think Hermes, with the wings on the cap.

Mercury is the gossip blogger, the one who’s meant to talk.

Mercury’s placement in a chart will tell you the nature and style of the communication.

Venus is the pageant queen.

Venus is beautiful.

She’s radiant.

And — she has a hyper-focus on charity and giving back.

Venus wants world peace.

She is beauty, she is grace; she will kiss babies and wear lace.

Find Venus in a chart to find desires and affections.

Mars is the gym bro.

Mars is a little dense.

Mars is muscles.

Mars is action.

Mars is the dirt bike daredevil who is not gonna think before jumping off that cliff.

Mars just wants to go.

If all your friends were jumping off a cliff… yes, Mars would too.

Mars will show you the source of energy in a chart.

Jupiter is the mysterious rich aunt.

Jupiter is traveling everywhere and is somehow incredibly wealthy, yet no one knows why.

Jupiter is lucky and elusive.

Jupiter is successful.

Jupiter comes into your life to give you a big gift, just to say: dream bigger.

Jupiter brings abundance to whatever area of the chart it’s in.

Saturn is the carpenter.

Saturn understands solid foundations.

Saturn understands the value of hard work.

“It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.” That’s Saturn.

Saturn ensures you have a strong structure before you even think about decorating the place.

Saturn teaches you to measure twice and cut once.

A sense of responsibility and patience is found wherever Saturn is in a chart.

Which means what?

These planets are people. As they move through the sky, they come in contact with one another.

Naturally, some planets get along better than others.

To better understand how these planets interact, you can read my article on aspects here.

As you begin reading a birth chart or interpreting transits, have these archetypes in the back of your head and watch the astrology come to life.
